We check before we sell
A battery that is flat is not the same as a battery that is dead. If a charge will hold, you do not need a new one and we will say so.
Fitted and tested
Terminals cleaned, the new unit secured properly, and the vehicle started before we leave. Not dropped in and left for you to find out.
Signs the battery rather than something else
A battery on its way out usually gives warning. Slow cranking on cold mornings, headlights that dim at idle, needing a jump more than once in a week, or a car that starts fine when driven daily but not after a weekend standing still.
If the engine starts and then cuts out, that points at the charging system rather than the battery, and a new battery will not fix it. If you are not sure which you have, a jump start will usually tell us within a minute of arriving.

If anyone is injured, or the vehicle is blocking a live lane, call 911 first — then call us. Hazard lights on, and get well clear of moving traffic if you can safely do so. When you call, tell us the cross streets or the expressway and the direction you were heading, what you are driving, and whether it still rolls and steers.

Does the price include the battery?
No, and it is worth being clear about that. The service range covers coming out to you and doing the work. The battery is quoted on top, based on what your vehicle takes. You will hear both numbers on the phone before anyone rolls out.
How do I know it is the battery and not the alternator?
The usual tell is what happens after a jump. If the engine runs on and keeps running, the battery was the problem. If it starts and dies shortly after, the charging system is not putting anything back, and that is a workshop job rather than a roadside one.
Will I lose my radio codes or settings?
Some vehicles lose stored settings when power is disconnected, and a few need a security code re-entered for the stereo. If you have that code somewhere, dig it out before we arrive. It saves a trip to the dealer over something small.
How long does a battery last?
Three to five years is typical, and Chicago winters are hard on them. A battery that has been jump started repeatedly has usually been damaged by the deep discharges as much as by age.
