When a jump is not the answer
A jump gets the engine turning. Whether it keeps running is a separate question, and there are a handful of faults that look identical to a flat battery from the driver's seat.

Before we get there
If anyone is injured, or the vehicle is blocking a live lane, call 911 first — then call us. Hazard lights on, and get well clear of moving traffic if you can safely do so. When you call, tell us the cross streets or the expressway and the direction you were heading, what you are driving, and whether it still rolls and steers.

How long does a jump start take once you arrive?
The connection itself is a couple of minutes. Most of the job is getting to you, which is why you get an ETA on the phone before we dispatch rather than a vague promise.
Will jump starting damage my car's electronics?
Not when it is done properly, which is the reason to call someone with the right equipment rather than accept a stranger's cables. Modern vehicles are sensitive to reversed polarity and voltage spikes, and that is exactly what goes wrong when it is improvised in a car park.
What if the car starts and then dies again?
That usually points at the alternator rather than the battery, because the alternator is what keeps the engine running once it has started. We will tell you what we think it is. A vehicle that will not stay running needs a workshop, not a roadside fix.
Do you jump start vans and box trucks?
Light-duty vehicles, yes, including twenty-four volt systems. Tell us the vehicle when you call. Heavy commercial equipment is outside what we carry, and we would rather say that on the phone than after you have waited.
